To Alex Strashny, as part of the Vehicle Rollover Roof Crush Team, for outstanding achievement in addressing occupant protection due to roof crush in rollover crashes.

Dr. Strashny has made an exceptional contribution in supporting the upgrade of the roof crush motor vehicle safety standard. In particular, his technical report, “The Role of Vehicle Roof Intrusion and Post-Crash Headroom in Predicting Roof Contact Injuries to the Head, Neck, or Face During FMVSS No. 216 Rollovers.”

Associate Administrator’s Certificates of Appreciation

In recognition of his extraordinary support in preparing current analysis of the Ford Explorer / Firestone tire controversy. A briefing was quickly prepared to examine the allegations that Ford Explorer tire-related rollover problem has not been properly addressed. The briefing was presented to Office of Defect Investigations, to the Acting Administrator, and later to the Administrator of NHTSA.

In recognition of his extraordinary support to the Office of Vehicle Safety, Planning, and Analysis by developing statistical procedures to screen a variety of vehicle safety attributes of light vehicles on an annual basis.
